Elite League Team of the Week: Round 30
The Elite League's regular season concluded in dramatic fashion, with playoff seedings secured, momentum shifting significantly, and numerous players delivering exceptional performances across the board.
As teams made their final statements before the postseason began, several athletes truly rose above the rest, providing crucial contributions when they were needed most.
With that in mind, let's dive into our selection for the Team of the Week for Round 30.
Elite League Team of the Week: Round 30
Christian Stoever, Cardiff Devils:
The Cardiff Devils are entering the playoffs brimming with confidence, having secured victories in seven of their last eight regular-season contests. A crucial factor in the Devils' recent upturn in form has been netminder Christian Stoever.
The Canadian concluded the campaign strong with back-to-back wins, elevating his season record to 17-6-0. Stoever recorded an impressive 23-save shutout against the Sheffield Steelers on Wednesday [1 April], before making 22 stops on 23 shots in a decisive 4-1 win over the Nottingham Panthers on the final day. Finishing the season with a robust .916 save percentage, the 25-year-old could prove to be a major player in the upcoming playoffs.
Josh Roach, Belfast Giants:
Josh Roach participated in two games during Gameweek 30, where he registered two assists and finished with an impressive plus-four rating.
With injuries limiting the Canadian to only 17 appearances throughout the season, Roach’s timely return to form provides the Giants with a much-welcomed boost as they head into the playoffs.
Charlie Curti, Guildford Flames:
Charlie Curti is widely considered one of the Elite League’s most underrated defencemen.
The American posted 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) in 39 regular-season games and is currently riding a four-game point streak as the quarter-finals approach. Curti was a standout performer as the Flames wrapped up the campaign with five consecutive wins, tallying assists in each of Guildford’s Round 30 matchups.
Tyler Preziuso, Guildford Flames:
Tyler Preziuso is a valuable depth piece for the Flames, consistently contributing to the team's efforts.
However, his performances on the final weekend of the season certainly warrant additional attention. The 27-year-old scored the opening goal in Guildford’s tight 2-1 victory over the Manchester Storm and also recorded a secondary assist in the Flames’ dominant 6-2 triumph against Belfast.
Burning bright heading into the playoffs, Preziuso is an under-the-radar player to keep a close watch on.
Kristoff Kontos, Cardiff Devils:
Kristoff Kontos has consistently performed as a point-per-game player throughout the season.
The Canadian ran rampant in the final weeks of the season, concluding with an impressive 53 points (17 goals, 36 assists) in 52 games, including a goal and an assist in Gameweek 30.
Logan Neilson, Fife Flyers:
Logan Neilson thoroughly justified his midseason transfer saga by accumulating 18 points (ten goals, 8 assists) in 37 appearances for the Fife Flyers.
The 23-year-old’s breakout form sends him to the IIHF World Championship with renewed confidence and provides a compelling case study for why he deserves more ice time at the club level.
After his switch from the Steelers, Neilson’s average deployment dramatically jumped from 4:50 to 18:11, although this trend was significantly influenced by organizational issues within Fife. In any case, Neilson secures a spot in the Team of the Week thanks to his game-winning brace against the Dundee Stars.
