Swansea & Sheffield United Play to a Dull Draw

August 23, 2026Diego Herrera3 мин

Sheffield United managed to put their recent financial troubles aside and secure a hard-fought draw against a lacklustre Swansea team.

This marks the second consecutive goalless match for the Blades, who also drew 0-0 against Birmingham last weekend.

Despite the distraction of a potential 12-point deduction due to unpaid debts, manager Chris Wilder and his squad appeared focused and disciplined, although not particularly threatening.

They managed two shots on target, a slight improvement from their zero shots in the previous Championship game. However, this was still one less than Swansea managed.

Swansea fielded Adam Idah upfront initially, later introducing Zan Vipotnik and finally debutant Ross Stewart towards the end of the match.

Despite these attacking options, none of them managed to make a significant impact, and Swansea were unable to build on their opening-week victory at Stoke.

In challenging conditions, neither team displayed much quality during an error-filled opening half-hour.

Swansea controlled most of the pressure and had an early chance when Josh Tymon's corner in the 19th minute was left to bounce in the goalmouth, but no teammate could capitalize.

Swansea winger Moussa Yeo cut inside from the left and had two attempts to set up Elijah Just, but the New Zealand international completely missed the ball from 12 yards out, summing up the low quality of play.

During a rare Sheffield United foray forward, midfielder Harrison Burrows received a yellow card for diving after referee Tom Nield deemed Filip Lissah's tackle fair.

The Blades showed signs of life towards the end of the half, nearly taking the lead when Callum O'Hare's volley struck the underside of the crossbar. Joe Rothwell's follow-up shot was blocked, and Swansea cleared the danger.

Early in the second half, Idah's strength created an opening for Sheffield United, but teammate Joseph Opoku's shot lacked both power and direction.

Sheffield United centre-back Mark McGuinness then missed the target with a volley from a free-kick.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos replaced Idah with last season's top scorer Vipotnik on the hour mark, followed by a series of other substitutions.

However, these changes failed to inject pace into Swansea's play. It was the Sheffield United attacking duo of O'Hare and Patrick Bamford who appeared the more dangerous.

O'Hare made a clever run behind the Swansea defence, but his cross wasn't met by a teammate.

Swansea had a late push, but their finishing continued to be poor.

Swansea & Sheffield United Settle for a Goalless Draw

Sheffield United, despite facing potential financial sanctions, secured a gritty goalless draw against a toothless Swansea City. The Blades demonstrated discipline and focus, earning a second successive 0-0 result.

The match was characterized by a lack of quality and numerous errors from both sides, particularly in the first half. Swansea had the better of the early pressure, with Josh Tymon's corner causing a goalmouth scramble and Elijah Just missing a clear opportunity. Sheffield United's Callum O'Hare came close to scoring before halftime when his volley hit the crossbar.

In the second half, Swansea introduced reinforcements like Zan Vipotnik and new signing Ross Stewart, but their attack remained ineffective. Sheffield United's attacking pair, O'Hare and Patrick Bamford, showed more threat in spells, but clear chances were scarce. Swansea pushed late on, but their finishing woes persisted, resulting in a stalemate.
