Dominick Reyes Targets Championship Comeback at UFC 327
UFC veteran Dominick Reyes is steadfast in his resolve to prove he remains a formidable contender capable of securing a world title within the promotion.
After navigating a challenging period marked by a four-fight losing streak, Reyes demonstrated resilience by stringing together three consecutive victories, propelling himself back into potential title contention. However, his momentum was disrupted last September when he suffered a knockout defeat at the hands of Carlos Ulberg, pushing him back in his quest for championship gold.
Now, as UFC 327 approaches this weekend, Dominick Reyes faces a significant challenge in Johnny Walker. This event also features a pivotal main event where Carlos Ulberg will compete against Jiri Prochazka for the coveted UFC light heavyweight championship.
In a recent interview, Reyes openly discussed his renewed championship ambitions and the profound impact of fatherhood on his career.
Dominick Reyes Fueled by "Dad Strength" and Title Hopes
"I was on a three-fight win streak. If I win this one, it'll be four out of the last five – pretty damn good," Reyes shared. "The great thing about fighting on a title fight card is the relevancy aspect. We live in a world where it's all about 'what have you done for me lately,' and memories can be short-term."
"So, if I go out there and deliver an impressive performance against Johnny, and with the main event happening shortly after, I'll definitely be part of the conversation," he asserted. "Whether I need to fight one more time or whatever the path, I'll be relevant."
"I've found a whole new motivation and appreciation – I genuinely feel like a new man," Reyes expressed. "That 'dad strength' is hitting hard. I'm physically stronger than ever before and fitter than I've been in my last four fights, which is incredibly exciting. But as I've mentioned, dad strength isn't just about physical power; it's also about mental fortitude."
"I'm able to tackle the most demanding aspects without thinking, 'Oh man, this sucks,' or struggling mentally, like 'Oh, this is terrible.' Every day, we just keep pushing forward. Now, my mindset is, 'Alright, let's get this done. Hell yeah. I've got a baby to feed.'"
