Trump Threatens to Destroy Iran's Kharg Island Oil Hub as Hostilities Escalate
U.S. forces have conducted strikes on two Iranian rocket launchers located on Larak Island. This action followed observations of Revolutionary Guard forces preparing rockets armed with sea mines for deployment into the Strait of Hormuz, according to confirmation from U.S. Central Command.
Navy Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for U.S. Central Command, stated, "Earlier today, U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz." He added, "Last week, CENTCOM completed clearing sea mines from the strait's international shipping routes. U.S. forces are monitoring the area closely and remain prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through this essential waterway."
According to the Associated Press, Sunday's strikes marked the first publicly acknowledged U.S. military action against Iranian positions since late July. The ongoing conflict has now entered its sixth month, significantly impacting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global energy shipments.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards have reportedly acknowledged the strikes, indicated that casualties occurred, and vowed a response. The group is said to have stated their intention to retaliate.
