British featherweight Arnold Allen is set to headline his second fight of 2026 at the Meta APEX in May.

The 145-pound contender recently shared with TNT Sports the amusing circumstances surrounding the fight offer for the bout scheduled for this spring.

"I literally had fish and chips," Allen recounted. "My manager called, asking if I wanted to fight in nine weeks. My initial thought was to call back in the morning after weighing myself, but I quickly realized, 'Yeah, I'll make that happen.' I'm really buzzing to be back."

Allen's last outing was at UFC 324 in January, a fiercely contested bout against fan-favorite Jean Silva that ended in a disappointing and controversial decision loss. That fight at the T-Mobile Arena marked his return after an almost 18-month hiatus due to injury. Inactivity has frequently hampered Allen's career, but in 2026, he aims to change that narrative.

Arnold Allen Previews Upcoming Bout

Currently ranked number 8 in the featherweight division and with only one win in his last four fights, Allen is now in a crucial position, needing to defend his ranking against emerging talents. The English fighter shared his thoughts on his next opponent, Melquizael Costa.

"He's [Costa] really surging, full of confidence," Allen noted. "He just knocked out a guy who's never been finished before. Dan [Ige] is a tough opponent, and Costa took him out with an incredible back kick. So, yeah, I'm excited for the challenge. Another southpaw, which makes for a scrappy, somewhat awkward fight, but it's definitely going to be a fight."

Brazilian fighter Melquizael Costa earns this opportunity against his most formidable opponent yet, following a series of electrifying performances in the UFC. With a 7-2 record in the promotion, Costa boasts a six-fight winning streak, including four finishes. He's also one of the most active fighters, having competed five times since February 2025. Widely considered a future star, known for his vibrant highlights and distinctive multi-colored hair, Costa also openly embraces his vitiligo, hoping to inspire children living with the same condition.
