Sports news ยป Usman Nurmagomedov Doubts Conor McGregor Will Make It to UFC 329 Max Holloway Fight

Usman Nurmagomedov, the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, has voiced his doubts about Conor McGregor’s potential appearance at UFC 329. McGregor is scheduled to return to the octagon on July 11 to face Max Holloway in a highly anticipated rematch, marking his first fight in five years. The Irish fighter has reportedly been dedicating himself to rigorous training for this five-round welterweight bout, with recent footage showcasing him in excellent physical condition, appearing as sharp as ever despite his extended absence from competition.

However, the current PFL lightweight champion, Usman Nurmagomedov, remains unconvinced that McGregor will ultimately compete against Holloway. McGregor’s last bout was in 2021, ending with a severe leg injury. Following his recovery, he was slated to return in 2024 to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303, but a toe injury led to his withdrawal. His activities from 2024 to 2026 have been varied, including commitments to BKFC, legal matters, and other pursuits, with numerous teased comebacks failing to materialize.

Usman Nurmagomedov’s Take on Conor McGregor’s UFC 329 Rematch with Max Holloway

Despite the current indications, Nurmagomedov believes a scenario similar to UFC 303 could unfold, preventing McGregor from fighting Holloway in July. In a recent interview with Home of Fight, he stated, “First of all, I donโ€™t believe heโ€™s [Conor McGregor] going to come back. Even if he does come back, I donโ€™t think he will beat [Max Holloway]. Because 5 years away from the sport is too much. Very long.”

The 28-year-old added that while a victory for McGregor against Holloway, which he views as an unlikely outcome, would be beneficial for the sport of MMA by re-engaging fans, he fundamentally doubts the fight will happen.

“If he beats him, this is good for MMA. More fans come back. It is what it is. Yes, [Conorโ€™s a star.]”
