The Philadelphia Flyers are actively seeking a defenseman with power-play capabilities and a top-six center this offseason. Flyers management is reportedly interested in acquiring a defenseman who can quarterback their power play. Anaheim Ducks defenseman John Carlson, a former Washington Capital, has been linked to the Flyers as he may be looking to return to the East Coast. Carlson recorded 14 goals and 46 assists in 71 games last season.
Additionally, the Flyers are open to trading defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen and are sticking to their asking price. The Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens are potential destinations for Ristolainen. On the offensive front, the Flyers are in the market for a top-six center, with Mason McTavish of the Ducks and Matty Beniers of the Kraken identified as potential targets, though their availability is uncertain.
Philadelphia’s depth at right wing might also make forward Owen Tippett expendable. While the Flyers value Tippett, their strong presence on the right side could lead them to move one of those players to address needs elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens are reportedly showing interest in Vincent Trocheck. Speculation suggests that the Canadiens and the New York Rangers have been in discussions regarding Trocheck, who could be a strong addition to their second line. Trocheck has a cap hit of $5.625 million through the 2028-29 season. There’s a question as to whether Trocheck, an American, would be inclined to play in Canada.
The Canadiens have also been frequently associated with Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere, who has a cap hit of $7.45 million through the 2031-32 season. This suggests the Canadiens might be considering a significant move this offseason.
