Trump's June Portfolio Activity: Selling Meta, Buying Berkshire Hathaway
In June, President Donald Trump engaged in extensive portfolio adjustments, making over a thousand financial transactions. These moves involved a diverse range of stocks, bonds, and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), with total transaction values estimated between $78.1 million and $263.1 million, according to his latest filing on August 22. Purchases of securities exceeded $49 million, while sales reached at least $28.5 million. The filing provides a general range for each transaction rather than precise figures, and does not specify the extent of his holdings in any particular security.
Among the notable transactions, a sale of Vanguard Dividend Appreciation Index Fund ETF shares, valued between $5 million and $25 million, occurred on June 22. On the same day, Trump invested between $1 million and $5 million in both Fidelity National Information Services and Home Depot, adding to existing purchases of these stocks in June, though he also made some sales of Fidelity shares.
On June 18, Trump sold shares of Meta and Motorola, each in the range of $1 million to $5 million. Concurrently, he acquired the same value range of shares in Berkshire Hathaway, Cintas, Visa, and Mastercard. These trades followed a market downturn driven by concerns over monetary policy and preceded a market rebound on June 18, which was the conclusion of Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's first meeting.
Additional ETF purchases in June included the iShares U.S. Treasury Bond ETF, State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF, and iShares GSCI Commodity Dynamic Roll Strategy ETF. The president also acquired several municipal bonds.
His sales included the Vanguard Short-Term Bond Index Fund ETF, State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF, and the Vanguard FTSE Europe ETF. These ETF transactions, along with 22 other stock and bond trades, fell within the $1 million to $5 million range. Transactions valued at $1 million or less made up the remainder, with filings only requiring disclosure of securities transactions exceeding $1,000.
Trump also traded Palantir Technologies shares, buying a small amount ($1,001 to $15,000) on June 3, selling a larger portion ($15,001 to $50,000) on June 16, and another significant amount ($500,001 to $1 million) on June 18. These activities occurred shortly after the U.S. and Iran agreed to a peace deal on June 14, and he made another minor purchase on June 23.
Two other defense companies, RTX and Northrop Grumman, were also featured in the disclosure. Trump purchased RTX shares worth $100,001 to $250,000 on June 12, and sold Northrop Grumman shares valued at $1,001 to $15,000 on the same day. He later bought Northrop Grumman on June 23 and sold it again on June 24.
Throughout June, Trump also bought and sold Coinbase shares amidst a decline in Bitcoin's value. He divested shares worth $116,003 to $315,000 between June 12 and June 23, then repurchased shares valued at $50,001 to $100,000 on June 24.
A request for comment from the White House did not receive an immediate response. In May, a spokesperson stated that the president's assets are managed by his children through a trust, asserting no conflicts of interest and that President Trump acts in the public's best interest.
