Joe Pyfer Unveils Blueprint for Sean Strickland to Conquer Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328

Having recently secured a TKO triumph over Israel Adesanya at UFC Seattle and ascended to the No. 6 position in the middleweight rankings, Joe Pyfer has turned his attention to unraveling the formidable challenge posed by Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev claimed the middleweight championship at UFC 319 last year, dominantly controlling Dricus du Plessis for over 21 minutes. Now, the undefeated Chechen-Emirati fighter is slated for his inaugural title defense at UFC 328, where he will face his former training associate and newly emerged rival, Sean Strickland.

The upcoming middleweight title encounter has already sparked considerable debate among analysts. A segment of experts predicts that "Tarzan" will present a significant challenge for the unbeaten "Borz," citing Strickland's exceptional takedown defense, refined striking, and impressive stamina. Conversely, many fans anticipate Chimaev will negate Strickland's offensive capabilities through his dominant grappling and wrestling, echoing his performance against Du Plessis. Adding his perspective to the discussion, Joe Pyfer has now offered his insights.

Joe Pyfer's Blueprint: How Sean Strickland Can Dethrone Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328

Joe Pyfer asserts that Sean Strickland must create a "chaotic" environment against Khamzat Chimaev, actively preventing the middleweight champion from establishing control, whether through striking exchanges or by grounding "Tarzan" with takedowns. Pyfer's core strategy emphasizes Strickland's need to avoid being taken down in the initial ten minutes of the fight. He postulates that if Strickland can thwart Chimaev's early wrestling attempts, a visibly frustrated Chimaev would become vulnerable and easier to overcome. In a discussion with Full Mount MMA, Pyfer, also known as 'Bodybagz,' elaborated:

“The only thing Chimaev is going to throw in the beginning is designed to set up that initial takedown. He wants to wrestle early to fatigue you. Therefore, for the first 10 minutes of that fight, you must engage aggressively, throwing everything and constantly changing levels with him. Alternatively, maintaining a low and grounded stance is crucial to prevent him from getting underneath you. If you can achieve this, you have a very, very good chance of winning.”

Notably, Sean Strickland’s own coach shares a similar sentiment, underscoring the importance of 'Tarzan' mastering the disruption of Chimaev’s relentless chain wrestling. This, they believe, is key to forcing Chimaev away from his primary game plan.
