VfB Stuttgart Shows Strength Against Premier League Opponent

VfB Stuttgart has successfully concluded its penultimate preparation match of the summer break, maintaining its unbeaten streak in all preseason friendlies this season. The Swabians emerged victorious in their season opener, defeating Premier League club FC Everton with a 3-1 scoreline (1-0 at halftime).

In front of a crowd of 43,000 spectators, VfB's goals were scored by right-back Nikolas Nartey in the 16th minute, defender Ramon Hendriks in the 65th minute, and forward Badredine Bouanani in the 91st minute. Everton managed to pull one back via a penalty converted by Thierno Barry in the 72nd minute, which was conceded by VfB goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow.

Concerns Re-emerge for Zagadou

Nartey opened the scoring after a well-executed attack just over fifteen minutes into the match. Following a long pass from Jovan Milosevic, Nartey utilized the space on the right flank, made a decisive cut, and struck the ball powerfully under the crossbar. In the second half, which was dominated by VfB, the recently substituted defender Hendriks extended the lead with a header from a corner. Bouanani sealed the victory with a late goal.

However, concern has arisen for defender Dan-Axel Zagadou. The player, whose career has been hampered by injuries, returned to the field after receiving treatment midway through the first half, only to be substituted again shortly after. Zagadou was seen holding his knee and the back of his thigh.

VfB Stuttgart's Upcoming Schedule

For their final preseason friendly before the official season begins, the Swabians will travel to England next week. On Saturday, the DFB-Pokal finalists are scheduled to face FC Fulham. VfB aims to advance to the second round of the DFB-Pokal against FC Hansa Rostock on August 21st. The challenging Bundesliga campaign kicks off a week later against record champions FC Bayern Munich.
