The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly reached out to the New York Rangers regarding center Vincent Trocheck. This inquiry comes in the wake of the Maple Leafs announcing that Max Domi will be out indefinitely after undergoing surgery. According to Mollie Walker of the NY Post, acquiring Trocheck might require a high draft pick, Nick Robertson, and prospect Ben Danford. While forward Matthew Knies has been mentioned as being on the Rangers’ radar, his availability is uncertain.
Prior to the trade deadline, the Minnesota Wild and Detroit Red Wings had expressed interest in Trocheck, but neither team has made contact this offseason. The Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators have also reportedly not pursued the player recently.
In parallel, the Toronto Maple Leafs are expected to soon narrow down their coaching search. Elliotte Friedman, on the 32 Thoughts: The Podcast โ Category 5 Hockey episode, shared that the Maple Leafs have conducted approximately 15 Zoom interviews for the head coaching position. Peter Laviolette is confirmed to have been among the candidates interviewed via Zoom. Friedman also noted that while other reporters are confident about David Carle not being a candidate, he has not received direct confirmation himself. He anticipates more clarity on potential candidates soon.
