Sports news ยป NHL Rumors: Flyers and Stars offseason outlook

Contract extension discussions with Philadelphia Flyers forward Trevor Zegras are anticipated in the near future. General Manager Daniel Briere also aims to secure a new deal for defenseman Jamie Drysdale, an RFA. While backup goaltender Samuel Ersson is also an RFA, he is a lower priority compared to Zegras and Drysdale. The Flyers possess significant projected cap space of approximately $39.5 million and will be looking to improve their power play, which ranked last in the league at 15.7%.

The Dallas Stars’ trade deadline acquisitions, defenseman Tyler Myers and forward Michael Bunting, did not meet expectations. Both players experienced scratches and costly mistakes during the first round of the playoffs, compounded by recent groin injuries. Myers, with one year remaining on his contract at a $1.5 million cap hit and a 12-team no-trade list, could be a trade candidate. Bunting, a pending UFA coming off a $4.5 million deal, is unlikely to be re-signed due to salary cap constraints. Bunting expressed his enjoyment of playing in Dallas and his uncertainty about his future, stating, “I loved it here. Dallas is a great place to play. And this team obviously has a bright future. Itโ€™s a weird thing when you know you have a contract expiring, and you donโ€™t know whatโ€™s in store.”
