NHL Rumors: DeBrusk, Pettersson, Raddysh, Carlson, Zacha, Hischier, Thomas, Benn, and Ovechkin

Sports news ยป NHL Rumors: DeBrusk, Pettersson, Raddysh, Carlson, Zacha, Hischier, Thomas, Benn, and Ovechkin

Several NHL teams have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring forward Jake DeBrusk, who is reportedly unwilling to join a rebuilding Vancouver Canucks team. DeBrusk has five years remaining on his contract with a $5.5 million annual salary and a full no-movement clause. Among the interested parties are the Ottawa Senators, Seattle Kraken, Winnipeg Jets, and Columbus Blue Jackets.

There’s a growing belief that the Vancouver Canucks might be open to retaining some salary in a potential trade involving Elias Pettersson. While a significant portion of his $11.6 million salary might not be covered, a reduction could facilitate a move. The Canucks’ leadership, including the Sedin twins, is reportedly working with Pettersson to help him regain his form.

Tampa Bay Lightning GM Julien BriseBois is said to have felt Darren Raddysh’s performance sample size was insufficient to warrant a large contract, unlike the one he secured from the Toronto Maple Leafs. BriseBois’s offer was reportedly significantly lower in both term and money compared to Raddysh’s eight-year, $8.5 million deal.

The Lightning are also expected to pursue defenseman John Carlson, with an estimated five Eastern Conference teams also showing interest in the player.

The Boston Bruins are reportedly listening to trade inquiries for center Pavel Zacha. With one year left on his $4.75 million contract and coming off a strong 30-goal, 35-assist season, Zacha is expected to seek a substantial raise. While extending him is a priority for the Bruins, they may consider offers if contract negotiations stall. Zacha has also submitted an eight-team no-trade list to the team.

While a Nico Hischier extension with the New Jersey Devils cannot be finalized until July 1st, it appears that a general agreement is in place. The Devils had been focused on a long-term deal, while Hischier preferred a shorter term, and it seems they are finding common ground.

Incoming St. Louis Blues GM Alex Steen is reportedly not planning to trade center Robert Thomas.

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn, a pending unrestricted free agent, is anticipated to sign a similar one-year contract to his previous deal, with a base salary of approximately $1 million plus bonuses.

The Washington Capitals are not rushing Alex Ovechkin into a decision regarding his playing future next season. He is expected to make a decision sometime in July.
