St Helens Captain Hastings Receives Three-Game Ban for Punch
St Helens skipper Jackson Hastings faces a potential season-ending suspension after being issued a three-game ban for violent conduct. The sanction follows his dismissal during the team's victory over Castleford Tigers on Saturday.
Hastings was sent off in the first half of the 36-12 win after striking Castleford's Tyler Dupree. Dupree also received a sin-binning for the same infraction.
Commenting on the incident, Castleford's director of rugby, Chris Chester, told Sky Sports that punching an opponent is against the rules, noting the involvement of another player in the situation.
The victory keeps St Helens' playoff aspirations alive, but they currently sit seventh in the standings with 28 points, one spot outside the playoff places with only three games remaining.
This suspension means Hastings will miss crucial games. If St Helens cannot overtake Hull KR (sixth, 30 points), Leigh Leopards (fifth, 32 points), or Wakefield Trinity (fourth, 32 points) in the remaining matches, Hastings' season will be over.
Already qualified for the playoffs are leaders Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors (tied on points but with a worse differential), and Warrington Wolves in third.
