Scheffler Chasing Hovland at Tour Championship as McIlroy's Hopes Fade
Viktor Hovland is tied for the lead at the halfway point of the PGA Tour's season-closing Tour Championship, with Scottie Scheffler firmly in the race for the FedExCup.
Hovland, the reigning FedExCup champion, finished his second round with a 66 at East Lake Golf Club, bringing him level at 10 under par with American Ryan Gerard.
Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup both shot 67s, placing them one shot behind in Atlanta. Cameron Young recorded the round of the day with a 62, surging from the bottom of the leaderboard to within two shots of the lead.
Young is joined at eight under par by Scheffler, who birdied five holes in a seven-hole span around the turn to card a three-under 67. English golfers Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick are three shots back, alongside Ludvig Åberg and Adam Scott.
The leaderboard is tightly packed, with 19 of the 29 participants separated by only five shots. However, defending champion Tommy Fleetwood is six shots behind at four under par, and three-time FedExCup winner Rory McIlroy is a further stroke back.
