Leeds Rhinos Reclaim Super League Top Spot with Dominant Win Over St Helens; Rivals' Play-off Hopes Diminished

Leeds Rhinos have returned to the top of the Betfred Super League standings following an impressive 34-6 victory over St Helens on Friday. The Rhinos delivered a commanding performance at the Brewdog Stadium, scoring six tries which not only halted St Helens' recent winning streak but also pushed them out of the play-off positions with just two games left in the season.

The scoring for Leeds began with Chris Hankinson, who put Brad Arthur's team in an early lead. Two quick tries from Cameron Smith and Harry Newman before halftime put the Rhinos firmly in control. Further tries from Ryan Hall, Ash Handley, and Brodie Croft, coupled with five conversions from Jake Connor, sealed a comprehensive win for Leeds. This victory was a strong response after their previous setback. The team demonstrated excellent control of the game from the outset, effectively frustrating St Helens, who had seen a revival under interim coach Eamon O'Carroll.

Leeds' early pressure paid off seven minutes into the match when Connor's well-timed pass allowed Hankinson to score the opening try. Cooper Jenkins had an opportunity to extend the lead shortly after, but his effort was disallowed due to a knock-on in the buildup. St Helens began to find their rhythm, but Deon Cross was twice denied a try on the wing, first by the Leeds defense and then by a forward pass ruling.

The home side was reduced to 12 men when Daniel Suluka-Fifita received a yellow card for a late tackle on Presley Cassell, who was taken off for a head injury assessment but passed it. Leeds pressed their advantage, with Jack Bird coming close before Cameron Smith broke through the defense for a superb individual try. The visitors added a third try just before the break, with Newman finishing a sweeping move in the corner. Although Tom Holroyd's try after halftime was disallowed, Leeds quickly reasserted dominance. Bird set up Hall for another try with a clever flick pass. St Helens managed a try through Jack Welsby, converted by Sailor, but Leeds soon restored their control. Connor's clever play led to two more tries: a dabbing grubber for Handley and a kick off the post for Croft to gather and score. Connor converted both, though he later hit the post with a penalty attempt.

Huddersfield Secure Crucial Win Against Play-off Contenders Leigh

In another significant match, Huddersfield secured a vital 30-18 victory against Leigh. Cole Geyer scored two tries as Huddersfield ran in five tries, moving them to 14 points and above second-bottom York. Owen Trout gave Leigh an early lead, but Huddersfield leveled through Harry Rushton before Taane Milne gave them a 14-6 halftime advantage. Niall Evalds extended the lead after the break. Despite a try from Umyla Hanley for Leigh, Geyer scored his first, and then sealed the win with his second, after Robbie Mulhern had kept Leigh's hopes alive.
