Sam Curran's anticipated return to the England Test squad has been postponed as he is set to undergo surgery for a groin injury. The Surrey all-rounder was in contention to play in the ongoing series against Pakistan, which would have marked his first Test appearance since 2021.

Following the conclusion of The Hundred competition, Curran has scheduled an operation that will sideline him for the remainder of the current season. A statement from Surrey confirmed, "Sam Curran has been assessed for a groin injury and will undergo surgery on Friday. He will not be available for the remainder of the home season."

Adding to England's challenges, teammate Will Jacks has also been ruled out of the Pakistan Test series due to an appendectomy. However, Surrey indicated that Jacks is recovering well and is expected to be fit for the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka. The club's statement concluded, "Will Jacks is currently recovering after a successful operation to remove his appendix. We will monitor his recovery and assess his availability ahead of the Sri Lanka series."
