Julian Alvarez Faces Two Transfer Options: Atletico Madrid or Arsenal

Julian Alvarez is presented with two definitive choices before the transfer window closes: either remain at Atletico Madrid and attempt to mend his relationship with the fanbase, or prepare for a potential move to Arsenal.

Sources close to the situation in Spain indicate that Alvarez is "devastated" after Atletico reiterated their refusal to sanction a transfer to Barcelona. This stance, combined with the negative reaction from the club's supporters during Sunday's opening La Liga match against Villarreal, has created significant tension.

According to Ruben Uría, an expert on Atletico Madrid and journalist, the situation is "extremely tense." He stated that neither Atletico's CEO, Miguel Gil Marín, nor the Apollo board are willing to sell the player to Barcelona, a decision that has been communicated to Alvarez.

Uría also revealed that Arsenal's sporting director, Andrea Berta, has maintained contact with his former colleagues at Atletico. However, for Arsenal to proceed with serious negotiations or make an offer, Alvarez must abandon his desire to join Barcelona and demonstrate a genuine commitment to Mikel Arteta's project. Currently, Arsenal is not optimistic about securing his signature before September 1st.

Alvarez's preference remains Barcelona, but the approaching transfer deadline may force a reassessment. While Arsenal will be ready to make an offer if he changes his mind, a move currently appears improbable.

Should Alvarez shift his stance and push for an exit, Atletico is reportedly prepared to consider offers in the region of £130 million (€150 million) from Arsenal. Some individuals close to the Argentine believe it is becoming increasingly untenable for him to stay at Atletico given the current atmosphere.

If Arsenal successfully acquires Alvarez, he would become the tenth player to command a fee exceeding £100 million in Premier League history and the fourth such signing for Premier League clubs this summer.

Uría further elaborated that Alvarez and his agent attribute the current difficulties to Atletico Madrid's CEO, Gil Marín, who they believe publicly pressured them to express a desire to leave. Atletico, conversely, maintains that Alvarez was aware of Diego Simeone's playing style and the terms of his contract when he signed, and they deny suggesting he could move to a direct rival.
