Dream Duo: Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz Unite for US Open Mixed Doubles
Tennis icons Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz have teamed up for the US Open mixed doubles championship.
Williams will make her competitive return to the US Open alongside the reigning men's champion, Alcaraz, after the pair were granted a wildcard entry.
This will be Williams' first professional match at Flushing Meadows since 2022, when she was defeated by Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and six-time US Open winner, who recently returned to tennis this summer, previously won the mixed doubles title in 1998 with Max Mirnyi.
Williams, who has also played singles at Wimbledon and doubles with her sister Venus at the Cincinnati Open, has not yet confirmed if she will participate in singles at the US Open. The USTA still has one women's singles wildcard available.
Alcaraz announced this week that he will be returning to defend his singles title at Flushing Meadows, following a period of recovery from a wrist injury he sustained in April.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka will partner with four-time US Open champion Novak Djokovic, while Jessica Pegula will team up with fellow American Taylor Fritz. These pairings were formed after their initial partners, Jack Draper and Elena Rybakina, withdrew.
The mixed doubles main draw is scheduled to commence on Tuesday.
