There’s considerable attention on the contract situations of two prominent young NHL stars: Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks and Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Macklin Celebrini, who is eligible to sign an extension starting July 1st, is generating buzz. Following an exceptional year and now representing Canada at the Men’s World Championships, discussions about his future contract are anticipated. While there’s no immediate rush as he still has another year on his entry-level deal, the Sharks will be closely watching his development and comparing his situation to other pending restricted free agents.
A key point of reference for Celebrini’s potential extension will be the upcoming contract for Connor Bedard. Negotiations between Bedard and the Blackhawks have reportedly resumed. While early discussions may reveal a gap in salary expectations, which is typical at this stage, a long-term agreement could see Bedard commanding upwards of $15 million per season.
Alternatively, a shorter-term deal, perhaps a three or four-year contract aligning with the final year of his restricted free agency, might see Bedard landing in the $12 million per season range. The Blackhawks are currently believed to be considering a figure closer to $10 million, but these negotiations are in their nascent stages.
Both parties involved are aware that a deal will be reached, and there is no cause for alarm. These discussions are part of the standard negotiation process and are expected to unfold over time.
