Prominent fighters Jorge Masvidal and Dustin Poirier have offered their insights into the upcoming second encounter between Conor McGregor and Max Holloway.
UFC President Dana White recently confirmed McGregor’s return to the octagon after a five-year absence. The highly anticipated rematch against Holloway is set to headline UFC 329 during International Fight Week, contested over five rounds at welterweight. Following his extensive break from the sport, McGregor has been positioned as the underdog by oddsmakers.
Dustin Poirier, who has faced both Holloway and McGregor on multiple occasions, and former BMF champion Jorge Masvidal have weighed in on how this rematch might unfold.
Masvidal’s Take: Holloway Dominates McGregor
In a discussion with UFC on Paramount+, Jorge Masvidal expressed his belief that Max Holloway will easily defeat Conor McGregor at UFC 329. Masvidal stated:
“I think Max smokes him like a brisket.”
Poirier’s Perspective: McGregor’s Power Remains
Dustin Poirier, while acknowledging McGregor’s potential advantages, commented:
“I think Conor has the power. That’s not gonna [disappear]. No matter the injury, that is going to be there still. The timing and a lot of other things matter, but the power is gonna be there.”
Lifestyle Differences Could Favor Holloway, According to Masvidal
Masvidal further elaborated on how the contrasting lifestyles of the two fighters could impact the outcome. He suggested that Holloway’s consistent dedication to the sport, his recent activity, minimal distractions, and daily training regimen give him an edge. In contrast, McGregor’s focus has been divided among multiple business ventures and a more luxurious lifestyle. While McGregor has recently resumed training, Masvidal highlighted the difference in their day-to-day commitment.
“It’s also the lifestyle. I think Conor lives a certain lifestyle we’ve all seen and you can tell it’s not for show and it’s really his lifestyle… Max lives a completely different lifestyle. I’ve never seen Max at the club drunk. You never see him in the headlines for anything bad. That guy lives a different life where he is in the gym, family, gym family… I think that’s gonna pay the biggest dividends. Cause you can be away from the sport for five years and come back like nothing happened, if you live that life.”
