Five Likely GM Candidates for the Nashville Predators

After a four-month search, the Nashville Predators have yet to identify a front-runner for their General Manager position. The team is considering both internal and external candidates and aims to make an announcement by the NHL draft in late June. Among the likely contenders are assistant general managers from prominent NHL organizations:

  • Darren Yorke (Carolina Hurricanes)
  • Brett Peterson (Florida Panthers)
  • Bill Scott (Edmonton Oilers)
  • Evan Gold (Boston Bruins)
  • Ryan Martin (New York Rangers)

The Chicago Blackhawks May Miss Out on a Top Forward at No. 4

Following the draft lottery, the Chicago Blackhawks have fallen to the No. 4 overall pick. With forwards expected to be selected in the top three picks, the Blackhawks might have to look at defensemen in the next tier, such as Carson Carels, Chase Reid, Alberts Smits, and Keaton Verhoeff. This presents an interesting situation, as the Blackhawks already have seven defensemen under the age of 25 under contract, including Artyom Levshunov, Sam Rinzel, Alex Vlasic, Wyatt Kaiser, Kevin Korchinski, Louis Crevier, and Ethan Del Mastro. If they opt for a defenseman at No. 4, and considering Levshunov and Rinzel are right-handed shots, they might lean towards a left-handed defenseman like Carels.

General Manager Kyle Davidson emphasized the team’s focus on acquiring the best long-term players, regardless of immediate fit. He stated, “We’re looking for the best players and who is going to be the best, not right away, but long term and who is going to be the best fit. So there’s going to be competition if that’s the direction we go and we were to draft another defenseman, same thing if we draft another centerman or winger. It’s a competition.” Davidson also indicated openness to discussing draft position changes with other teams.

The Blackhawks could potentially add a top-six forward if they successfully sign and bring Roman Kantserov over from the KHL. While having the option to draft forwards like Gavin McKenna or Ivar Stenberg would have been beneficial for their forward group, it may no longer be a possibility at the No. 4 pick.

Predators GM Candidates & Blackhawks Defense Depth Analysis

The Nashville Predators are in the midst of a thorough search for their next General Manager, with several experienced assistant GMs from successful franchises emerging as potential candidates. This strategic hiring process, aiming for a decision by the NHL draft, suggests a focus on building a strong foundation for the future. Meanwhile, the Chicago Blackhawks find themselves in a unique position with their draft pick. Their abundance of young, promising defensemen already under contract means that selecting another defenseman at No. 4 could lead to internal competition and future roster decisions. This depth on the blue line, coupled with the potential acquisition of KHL talent, highlights a proactive approach to player development and roster management for the Blackhawks.
