The St. Louis Blues, possessing multiple first-round picks and a deep prospect pool, are reportedly open to moving up in the NHL draft to acquire an elite talent. With picks at 11 and 15, and an additional pick from the Colorado Avalanche, the Blues have the draft capital to consider such a move. General Manager Doug Armstrong has previously indicated a willingness to trade picks, prospects, or players to enhance the team.
The San Jose Sharks, holding the second overall selection, are listening to offers. The top prospects available at that position are widely considered to be Gavin McKenna and Ivar Stenberg. Notably, the Blues have a connection to Stenberg through his older brother, Otto.
However, the Sharks’ asking price for the No. 2 pick is substantial. While the Blues’ 11th and 15th picks, along with other assets, could be part of a package, it’s unlikely to be enough on its own. The Sharks may be more interested in a proven roster player like Jordan Kyrou, rather than prospects like Adam Jiricek or Dalibor Dvorsky. However, players like Colton Parayko (due to age) or Pavel Buchnevich may not fit the Sharks’ long-term vision, especially with Michael Misa emerging as a potential future center.
Acquiring the No. 2 pick would require a significant offer from the Blues. A hypothetical trade involving the 11th pick, Adam Jiricek, and a third-round selection might be a starting point, but the Sharks would likely seek better offers from other interested teams.
It’s also worth noting that other teams with high draft picks, such as the Toronto Maple Leafs (No. 1), Chicago Blackhawks (No. 4), and Winnipeg Jets (No. 8), could also be in the mix for potential trades, each with their own set of priorities and potential targets.
