Carlos Ulberg Reports Losing UFC Belt After UFC 327 Afterparty

Sports news » Carlos Ulberg Reports Losing UFC Belt After UFC 327 Afterparty

Carlos Ulberg, the new UFC light heavyweight champion, has revealed a rather unusual situation: he seems to have lost his newly acquired title belt. This happened not in a fight, but during the post-UFC 327 celebrations in Miami.

Ulberg secured the vacant light heavyweight championship on Saturday at the Kaseya Center in Miami. He achieved this with a decisive first-round knockout against former champion Jiri Prochazka in the main event of UFC 327. Despite an early knee injury that seemed to put him at a disadvantage, Ulberg managed to turn the tables dramatically with a powerful left hand, followed by ground and pound to seal his championship win.

However, in a surprising turn of events, just hours after being crowned the 205-pound king, Ulberg admitted to misplacing his belt while celebrating in Miami.

Ulberg Details Losing the Belt During Miami Celebrations

In a recent interview with Fox Sports Australia, Carlos Ulberg confessed that he’s unsure of the belt’s current whereabouts. He explained that after his victory, the initial plan was to abstain from drinking. However, the celebratory atmosphere, involving champagne and shots, led to a night of revelry.

“I’ve lost the belt, bro,” Ulberg stated. “I don’t know exactly where it is. Initially, after winning, the plan was not to have a drink. But you know how these things go, right? First, someone gives you a champagne to celebrate. Then one thing leads to another, and you’re doing shots. So it’s ‘OK, I’ll have another, and another, and another.”

Ulberg, nicknamed “Black Jag,” expressed a lack of serious concern, believing the belt is likely still at a friend’s apartment where the afterparty continued. He suspects one of his friends might be holding onto it.

“We’ve got a big group of boys over here in Miami and, when the fight was done, we all went out to the afterparty at a nightclub. Then after that, it was back to one of the boys’ apartments and we all hung out there. I didn’t want to be carrying the belt around so I think it’s still there at the apartment somewhere. One of the boys probably has it in bed with him.”

Adding a humorous touch to the situation, fellow UFC fighter Paulo Costa, who also secured a victory at UFC 327, took to social media. Costa, known for his playful sarcasm, shared a video of himself with Ulberg and quipped that he would return the belt if he happened to find it.

“I met Carlos Ulberg at the hotel lobby. Coincidentally, he lost the belt right after that. I’m Brazilian, but I have not with that. If I find it, I’ll let you know.”
