Carlos Ulberg Calls Jiri Prochazka a ‘Pretender,’ Denies Mercy Claim and Updates Leg Injury

Sports news » Carlos Ulberg Calls Jiri Prochazka a ‘Pretender,’ Denies Mercy Claim and Updates Leg Injury

Newly crowned UFC light heavyweight champion Carlos Ulberg has voiced strong criticism of Jiri Prochazka, labeling him a “pretender” and dismissing Prochazka’s suggestion that he showed mercy during their championship bout at UFC 327. Ulberg, who secured the title despite suffering a severe leg injury during the fight, believes Prochazka’s actions stemmed from fear, not compassion.

During their encounter for the vacant light heavyweight title, Ulberg sustained significant damage from Prochazka’s leg kicks, leading to a knee injury that he admitted was so severe his corner considered stopping the fight. Despite the pain and mobility issues, Ulberg rallied, landing a decisive check hook that put Prochazka on the canvas and ultimately led to Ulberg’s victory.

Prochazka later claimed he held back from finishing Ulberg out of mercy. However, Ulberg vehemently rejects this assertion. Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Ulberg stated, “That’s bullsh*t, total bullsh*t. That’s the fear that he had. That wasn’t any kind of mercy… There was no mercy in there. He was full of fear, hesitation, and that’s what got him clipped.” Ulberg characterized Prochazka’s “mercy” claim as an excuse to potentially secure a rematch, which he believes will not happen.

Regarding his own condition, Ulberg shared that he is still awaiting definitive diagnosis on his knee injury. He confirmed that he will undergo scans in Las Vegas to determine if he has torn his ACL. The fighter described his knee as feeling unstable, “going in and out of the socket,” and experiencing “unbearable” pain, making even walking difficult.
