Despite an upcoming MMA bout against UFC icon Mauricio `Shogun` Rua, Yoel Romero will step into the ring for a `Dirty Boxing` match later this month. This Cuban fighter, who previously challenged for the middleweight title in the UFC, remains active in combat sports even as he approaches his 48th birthday.
In November 2024, Romero demonstrated his knockout power at the inaugural Dirty Boxing Championship in Miami, securing a first-round victory. His next appearance in this promotion is scheduled for this month.
Yoel Romero to Headline Dirty Boxing Event on YouTube, March 22
Dirty Boxing Championship, promoted by Mike Perry, has announced its next event for Saturday, March 22, at The Hangar in Regatta Harbour, Miami, Florida.
Yoel Romero will headline the event, facing Ras ‘Rasquatch The Jamaican Shamrock’ Hylton, a former Bellator prospect.
Unlike the first Dirty Boxing event, which was not streamed publicly, DBX 1, featuring Romero versus Hylton, will be available globally for free streaming on platforms like YouTube, Twitter (X), Facebook, TikTok, Rumble, and Kick.
This announcement has sparked considerable interest in the combat sports world, especially given Romero`s pre-existing commitment to an MMA fight later in the year.
Yoel Romero Set to Fight UFC Legend in Global Fight League
The Global Fight League (GFL), a new MMA promotion focused on showcasing veteran fighters, has signed Yoel Romero. In February, it was announced that Romero would return to MMA to fight Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua.
While the date and location for Romero vs. Rua are yet to be confirmed, the matchup has drawn criticism from MMA enthusiasts. Concerns have been raised about the combined age of the fighters, with some expressing disapproval of the GFL`s matchmaking.
Romero and Rua are among several former UFC stars joining GFL, including Frank Mir, Junior Dos Santos, Alexander Gustafsson, Chris Weidman, Luke Rockhold, Holly Holm, Chad Mendes, Dillon Danis, Tyron Woodley, Kevin Lee, and Tony Ferguson.
The inaugural GFL season is scheduled to commence in April 2025.
