NHL Network insider Elliotte Friedman expressed his strong belief that Quinn Hughes will eventually sign a contract extension with the Minnesota Wild, even predicting a three-year deal.
During a discussion, Mike Rupp questioned whether Hughes’ success in Minnesota would make re-signing more probable. Friedman, acknowledging Rupp’s New Jersey Devils allegiance, stated his prediction that Hughes will extend his contract with the Wild and would be surprised if he did not.
Friedman elaborated on the factors contributing to this prediction. He believes Hughes recognizes the positive situation he’s in with the Wild and that the team also has a strong foundation. Friedman pointed to the long-term contracts of key players like Matt Boldy and Kirill Kaprizov, as well as the promising future of young goalie Jesper Wallstedt, who recently made Wild history. The presence of other signed defenseman like Jonas Brodin and Brock Faber further solidifies the team’s stability.
Initially, Friedman suggested, Hughes might have had reservations about Minnesota. However, he believes that advisors around Hughes highlighted the team’s quality and the long-term security of its core players, convincing him that he would thrive there. Friedman stated that this has indeed proven to be the case.
Furthermore, Friedman emphasized that Hughes likely respects General Manager Bill Guerin’s decision to acquire him without a guaranteed extension. He believes Hughes appreciates Guerin’s boldness and that this gesture, combined with the team’s current success and promising outlook, will motivate Hughes to reward the organization with his commitment.
Friedman reiterated his prediction of a three-year extension for Quinn Hughes with the Minnesota Wild.
