Following the recent dismissal of general manager Brad Treliving, Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment President Keith Pelley addressed the media, confirming that Craig Berube currently remains the head coach. The organization is now embarking on a comprehensive search for its next head of hockey operations or general manager.
Despite the management shake-up, Berube, who coached the team to a 5-4 overtime victory the previous night, appeared unfazed by potential job security concerns. He was informed about Treliving’s departure and understood his position as head coach was unchanged for the time being.
It will be an interesting offseason of change for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Pelley clarified that Berube’s long-term future with the team rests with the incoming head of hockey operations, a role the organization hopes to fill potentially by the NHL Scouting Combine or, at the latest, before the NHL Draft.

Manny Malhotra’s name is also gaining traction as a potential candidate for the Maple Leafs or other teams in need of a coach. Malhotra, currently with Abbotsford and having previously been part of the Leafs’ organization, has had a successful season. This makes him an attractive prospect for teams considering a coaching change this offseason, including Los Angeles and Toronto, as he positions himself for a potential step up to an NHL head coaching role.
