The Champions League anthem is iconic in soccer. However, before Aston Villa played Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarterfinal, they heard the Europa League anthem instead.
As the teams stood ready at Villa Park, the Europa League music filled the stadium. Some players looked confused by the wrong song. Fortunately, the correct Champions League anthem was played just before the match began.
It was a funny and unexpected moment. Similar things happen occasionally, like when Uruguay`s national anthem was mixed up at the 2016 Copa America.
Regarding the game, PSG has only lost four times this season and is unbeaten in their last seven games after losing to Liverpool. Achraf Hakimi scored for PSG early in the match, just 11 minutes in. Emiliano Martinez, Villa`s goalkeeper, couldn`t stop PSG`s cross from Bradley Barcola, leading to the goal. Nuno Mendes added another goal for PSG in the first half, putting them in a strong position to reach the semi-finals.
