The annual National K-12 Grade Chess Championship took place from December 9th to 11th in National Harbor, MD. This prestigious event saw a remarkable turnout of over 2,400 K-12 students from across the country, marking a significant increase in participation compared to the previous year.
The highly competitive 3rd-grade section alone featured 260 students, including many formidable players. Local chess prodigy, Ted Wang, entered the tournament as the top-rated player in his section, earning him a place in a dedicated area for leading participants.

Demonstrating exceptional skill, Ted Wang impressively won his first six games and secured a draw in the final round. This outstanding performance culminated in him winning first place in the 3rd-grade section. His achievement is a source of immense pride, especially as he uniquely represented Washington State on such a prominent national stage, being the sole player from Washington in his section.
