PING has unveiled its new G740 iron, specifically designed for golfers seeking maximum game improvement. This innovative club is engineered to provide exceptional distance, high launch, superior forgiveness, and consistent performance, all aimed at helping players reduce their scores.
These custom-fitted G740 irons are now available for pre-order and custom fittings globally at authorized PING retailers. Pricing starts at $202.50 per club with a steel shaft, or $217.50 with a graphite shaft.
John K. Solheim, PING CEO/President, stated that the G740 iron signifies a renewed, focused commitment to the super-game-improvement category. He highlighted its significantly wider sole and larger clubhead, making it PING’s most forgiving and longest iron currently available. Solheim emphasized that the G740 is ideal for golfers needing greater consistency, as its expanded face area improves results on off-center hits, boosting ball speed and forgiveness. Players opting for the G740 will appreciate its performance, particularly its ability to help them hit more greens.
A key design goal for the G740 iron was to maximize ball speed, especially for golfers who struggle with consistent contact. This design ensures shots launch higher, travel further, and effectively hold the green.
Key features of the G740 include a wider, dual-camber sole that strategically lowers and deepens the center of gravity (CG). This design promotes increased ball speed, higher launch, greater distance, and improved stopping power on greens. Utilizing an advanced heat-treating process, PING engineers leveraged the strength of 17-4 stainless steel to create a thinner, larger face that flexes more effectively. This expanded hitting surface maintains ball speed and enhances accuracy on imperfect strikes. Furthermore, the PurFlex cavity badge, featuring three distinct flex zones, precisely manages face flex while refining both feel and acoustics.
Solheim reiterated the importance of the G740’s rapid ball speed, calling it a defining feature.
