In Carrollton, Texas, Patrick Reed and Harold Varner III are tied for the lead after the first round of LIV Golf Dallas. Both players carded a 5-under 67 on Friday at Maridoe Golf Club.
Reed`s round included an eagle on the 655-yard par-5 second hole, along with four birdies and one bogey. His 4Aces teammate, Varner, recorded six birdies but finished with a bogey.
Four-time major winner Brooks Koepka withdrew mid-round due to illness. Earlier, he was seen hitting a tee marker with his driver on the ninth.
Jon Rahm is just one shot behind the leaders. Abraham Ancer is two back after a 69, while Dustin Johnson, Graeme McDowell, Anirban Lahiri, Richard Bland, and David Puig are all at 70.
Local favorite Bryson DeChambeau, who played college golf at SMU and resides in Dallas, started his tournament with a round of 72.
Joaquín Niemann, the current points leader and winner of the recent LIV Golf Virginia event, struggled, posting a 78. His round included a score of 10 on the par-5 seventh hole.
