QPR Secure Comeback Victory Against Blackburn
Queens Park Rangers continued their strong start to the Sky Bet Championship season, securing their second win in three games with a 2-1 comeback victory over Blackburn.
Following a balanced first half, Blackburn took the lead in the 49th minute thanks to a spectacular volley from Ryoya Morishita. However, QPR responded quickly, equalizing within two minutes through a composed finish from Paul Smyth. They completed the turnaround in the 74th minute with a powerful header from Jimmy Dunne, a deserved conclusion to their efforts.
Julien Stephan's team demonstrated notable resilience to bounce back from falling behind. This early-season success has placed them in fourth position in the league standings, having accumulated seven points from a possible nine.
Blackburn's unbeaten run was halted by this result. While their players displayed commendable effort, Tony Mowbray's squad appeared to lack the depth of options from the bench compared to their visiting opponents.
Despite QPR's promising start, Blackburn had the first significant scoring opportunity in the 21st minute. Ryan Alebiosu's precise cross found Todd Cantwell at the far post, but his header went over the crossbar.
Nine minutes later, the same duo combined to come even closer. Alebiosu's center eluded everyone, and Cantwell executed a skillful move, stepping back before firing a bouncing shot just past the far post.
QPR had a clear chance to take the lead when Rumarn Burrell set up Ilias Chair, but Balazs Toth's extended left leg thwarted the attempt.
As halftime approached, Ronnie Edwards forced another excellent save from Toth. The goalkeeper made a full stretch to tip away a curling 20-yard shot that was heading for the bottom right corner.
Blackburn broke the deadlock with a stunning goal at the beginning of the second half. Andri Gudjohnsen's flick-on found Morishita, who controlled the ball and unleashed an incredible left-footed volley from 20 yards into the top corner.
QPR's reaction was immediate. Burrell advanced down the right flank and delivered an intelligent low cross to Smyth at the near post, who expertly steered the ball past Toth to equalize.
In the 53rd minute, a remarkable reflex save from Charles prevented Blackburn from regaining the lead. He reacted quickly to dive low and flick away Alebiosu's cross.
From that point onwards, QPR began to assert their control. Burrell's glancing header went wide in the 64th minute, and further opportunities were missed when substitute Kwame Poku directed Burrell's left-wing cross wide, and Edwards saw another powerful shot go past the post.
Their sustained pressure paid off 16 minutes from time. QPR regained possession after a clearance, and Tariq Lamptey delivered a superb cross that set up Dunne to power a header home from close range, securing the victory.
Alfie Lloyd had a late shot blocked, but QPR comfortably secured their second consecutive win at Ewood Park.
