Muhammad Mokaev has extended his undefeated professional record in his second bout since parting ways with the UFC.
Despite achieving a perfect 7-0 record in the Octagon, including a victory over Manel Kape, Mokaev`s pursuit of a title shot within the premier MMA promotion was halted in 2024.
Citing external factors and reported issues with matchmakers, UFC President Dana White announced Mokaev`s release by opting not to renew his contract.
Initially attempting to garner fan support for a swift return to the promotion, `The Punisher` has since committed to demonstrating his capabilities through impressive performances in other organizations.
His most recent effort to catch the UFC`s attention occurred this past weekend.
Mokaev Defeats Thomas Assis by Decision at 971 Fighting Championship
Mokaev`s first fight following his UFC departure took place last December, marking a return to his former promotion, Brave CF.
The British fighter, originally from Dagestan, made a significant impact against a late-notice opponent, submitting Joevincent So in under two minutes.
While he couldn`t replicate that quick finish, Mokaev secured another victory in his first outing of 2024, held on Saturday in Dubai.
Headlining 971 FC 2, `The Punisher` earned a decision win over Thomas Assis, a Brazilian competitor with experience in promotions like Jungle Fight and an impressive 12-2 record entering the fight against Mokaev.
Despite the bout being contested at bantamweight, Mokaev made several bold claims regarding his standing in the global flyweight division (125 pounds), beginning with his earnings.
“15-0,” Mokaev posted on X. “Most (paid) fighter FLYWEIGHT in the world.
“Just never give up, face the challenges and become stronger. Doesn’t matter what you’re going through in your life!”
In a separate post, Mokaev made another assertion, shifting the focus from financials to skill.
“The best flyweight in the world.”
Muhammad Mokaev Targets UFC Return for Alexandre Pantoja Title Fight
Another successful performance outside the UFC has undoubtedly amplified Mokaev`s desire to rejoin the sport`s top organization.
Even before his June 14 victory, Mokaev reiterated his goal of being re-signed by Dana White to challenge UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja in a fight that has been widely discussed. He shared his thoughts in a previous interview:
“I believe I just need to put in a striking performance and win by spectacular finish, and people have already started talking about how I need to come back to the UFC. Of course, my dream is to become the best in the world.”
“Pantoja is 36 years old, I’m 24, I’m in my peak. Remember, I was beating guys who were in their peak while I was 22. Now, I’m feeling much stronger, much better.”
“Whatever has gone on in my career has made me mentally stronger. Now, I’m ready to fight for the belt.”
Meanwhile, the current champion, Alexandre Pantoja, is scheduled to defend his title against Kai Kara-France. `The Cannibal` will face Kara-France in the co-main event of UFC 317 on June 28 in Las Vegas.
