It`s official: Mohamed Salah has signed a new contract with Liverpool, ensuring he will remain at Anfield beyond the 2024-25 season. The club made the announcement on Friday morning. While Salah`s previous deal was set to expire in the summer of 2025, recent reports of a contract extension have become increasingly concrete. A similar situation is developing with Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, who is also expected to sign a new contract soon.
Liverpool has finalized Salah`s new contract, committing the player for at least two more years, as earlier reports indicated. Salah shared his reaction to the news on the club`s official website.
“I`m very excited, of course. We already have a fantastic team, and I believe we have the opportunity to win more trophies and enjoy success together. I`ve had some of my best years here, and hopefully, I can continue to contribute for years to come. To the fans, I`m incredibly happy to stay at Liverpool. I signed this contract because I believe we can achieve even more great things together. Thank you for your continued support, and we`ll do our best to bring more trophies to Anfield.”
Salah currently holds the third position on Liverpool`s all-time scoring chart, with 243 goals in 394 appearances. During his Anfield career, he has achieved numerous accolades, including three Premier League Golden Boots, two PFA Players` Player of the Year awards, and two FWA Footballer of the Year awards.
Together with van Dijk, Salah has lifted seven trophies with Liverpool, including the Premier League title in the 2019-20 season, the UEFA Champions League in 2019, and multiple domestic cup titles, including the FA Cup. Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017 for approximately $40 million, Salah has become one of the club`s all-time leading scorers. Van Dijk, who joined in 2018 from Southampton for around $80 million, has also been a key contributor, scoring 28 goals in 293 games.
