Miami Grand Prix 2025: Sprint Weekend Preview

Sports news ยป Miami Grand Prix 2025: Sprint Weekend Preview

Formula 1 heads to the United States for the first of three planned visits in 2025, with the Miami Grand Prix set to host a Sprint weekend format.

Oscar Piastri took the lead in the F1 Drivers` Championship after his recent victory in Saudi Arabia. He currently holds a slim advantage, being 10 points ahead of Lando Norris and 12 points clear of Max Verstappen.

Lando Norris returns to the venue where he achieved his first career Grand Prix win just twelve months prior. He will be aiming to replicate that success, particularly after some recent costly errors.

Following a competitive showing in Jeddah, Red Bull`s performance relative to McLaren will be closely watched. The question is whether they can challenge McLaren again, or if the Woking-based team will show superior pace around the Hard Rock Stadium circuit.

Mercedes will hope for improved competitiveness with George Russell, who sits 26 points behind championship leader Piastri. Rookie Kimi Antonelli will face another new circuit to navigate.

Charles Leclerc secured Ferrari`s first Sunday podium finish of the season in Saudi Arabia. A key narrative heading into Miami will be whether he can maintain his recent strong form against Lewis Hamilton.

The Miami International Autodrome Track

The Miami Grand Prix circuit became part of the F1 calendar in 2022. The purpose-built street track is located around the Hard Rock Stadium, home ground for the NFL team, the Miami Dolphins.

The circuit features a fast first sector and a lengthy straight leading into the penultimate corner, which typically offers the best chance for overtaking opportunities.

One distinctive and challenging feature is the Turn 14/15 chicane, requiring drivers to slow down significantly and carefully avoid the potentially disruptive sausage kerbs.

Miami GP Weather Forecast

While previous Miami Grands Prix have been dry, the weather forecast for 2025 suggests potential thundery showers on Sunday, coinciding with the race start at 4pm local time (9pm UK). Friday and Saturday are currently expected to be dry, with temperatures throughout the weekend in the high 20s Celsius.
