Mark Hunt Arrested on Domestic Violence-Related Charge; Details Revealed

Sports news » Mark Hunt Arrested on Domestic Violence-Related Charge; Details Revealed

Former UFC heavyweight fighter Mark Hunt was recently taken into custody in northern New South Wales. He faces a charge of stalking or intimidation with the intent to cause physical harm, as reported by various outlets citing official police and court records. This development has garnered significant attention within the MMA community, given Hunt’s prominent status in the heavyweight division from Oceania. The arrest comes approximately a year after the conclusion of his protracted legal dispute involving Brock Lesnar and the UFC.

Initial reports indicated that Mark Hunt was denied bail prior to a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday. However, subsequent reports, referencing court proceedings, stated that bail was eventually granted with stringent conditions. These conditions reportedly require Hunt to remain at his residence in Cobbitty, located in southwest Sydney, and to have no contact with the accuser. His next court appearance is slated for April 30 at Ballina Local Court.

Prosecutors allege that Hunt made threats to a woman known to him during an incident at a residential property while she was assisting him with a task. Court documents also reportedly mentioned an alleged message containing a threat to the woman’s life. However, Hunt’s legal team has refuted the claim that he sent such a message, and no separate charges have been filed in relation to it. The defense has also argued that Hunt’s past as a professional fighter should not be used as evidence of violent behavior in his personal life.

Hunt remains a well-recognized figure in mixed martial arts. He competed in the UFC from 2010 to 2018, participating in 18 fights. He was the headliner for five UFC events and challenged Fabricio Werdum for the interim heavyweight championship at UFC 180. The UFC event record confirms that Werdum defeated Hunt via stoppage in their interim title bout in November 2014. Hunt also had a notable career in promotions such as PRIDE FC and K-1.

Beyond his fighting career, Hunt was involved in a lengthy legal battle concerning his UFC 200 loss to Brock Lesnar. In 2017, Hunt initiated legal action against the UFC, Dana White, and Lesnar, alleging fraud, racketeering, and other related misconduct after Lesnar failed drug tests connected to their 2016 fight. The outcome of that particular fight was subsequently overturned to a no contest following Lesnar’s positive test results.
