Manchester United Interested in Wolves Star Matheus Cunha

Sources indicate that Matheus Cunha is a key target for Manchester United as they plan to improve their attacking options this summer under manager Ruben Amorim.

Cunha, a forward for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has impressed in the Premier League this season. His contract includes an $83.5 million release clause that can be activated in the summer transfer window. It is anticipated that the Brazilian player will leave Wolves and has also been mentioned as a potential signing for Arsenal and Chelsea.

This season, Cunha has scored 14 Premier League goals in 28 appearances for Wolves, who were battling against relegation. This is significantly more than any Manchester United player, highlighting United`s goal-scoring issues throughout the campaign. In fact, Amorim`s team has scored fewer goals than Wolves this season and is positioned lower in the league table, despite having a better defensive record.

Adding more goals to the team is expected to be a major focus for Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, the amount they can spend on attacking players will depend on whether they qualify for Champions League football next season. Their best chance to enter the competition, and indeed any European competition, would be to win the Europa League, where they are in the semifinals against Athletic Bilbao.

Manchester United are also reportedly interested in Liam Delap, a forward from Ipswich, and Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker currently playing on loan at Galatasaray. Signing either of these players would not necessarily prevent a move for Cunha, who could play as a central striker or in one of the attacking positions behind the main forward in Amorim`s tactical system.

Cunha has openly stated his desire to leave Wolves. In March, he told The Observer, “I`ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to compete for titles, for significant achievements. I believe I have the potential to do so.”

The 25-year-old joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2023 and has scored 32 goals in 87 games across all competitions.
