Leon Edwards’ UFC Return Plan for Late 2025

Sports news » Leon Edwards’ UFC Return Plan for Late 2025

Leon Edwards is expected to make his return to the UFC octagon towards the end of 2025, according to his brother Fabian Edwards. Fabian shared this update while focusing on his own aspirations in the middleweight division.

The former UFC welterweight champion experienced a setback, losing his title to Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in Manchester last summer. This was followed by another defeat at UFC London against Sean Brady, marking the first time in Edwards` career that he has suffered consecutive losses.

Undeterred, Leon Edwards has already resumed training and is diligently refining his skills. Currently, he is in Orlando, supporting his brother Fabian as he competes in the PFL World Tournament quarter-finals against Impa Kasanganay, vying for a $500,000 prize.

Leon Edwards Aiming for UFC Comeback in Late 2025

Following his recent defeats, Leon Edwards is back in training, committed to enhancing his fighting techniques and preparing for a strong resurgence in the UFC. His immediate priority, however, is to support Fabian Edwards in the ongoing PFL World Tournament.

If Fabian progresses successfully through the three-fight knockout tournament, he is scheduled to fight on Friday night, again in late June, with a potential final bout in late August. This schedule allows Leon ample time to refocus on his own career and gear up for another campaign towards reclaiming the welterweight title.

Fabian Edwards, in a conversation, revealed, “I believe his plan is multifaceted. He is currently training to improve and refine his techniques while simultaneously supporting me. His focus is on development, assisting me, and then targeting a fight towards the end of the year.”

Fabian added, “He has been present at my sparring sessions and traveled with me to Florida. He is in good spirits and spending quality time with family. Historically, the UFC hasn`t presented Leon with favorable matchups.”

“It seems their approach isn`t about finding stylistically advantageous opponents for Leon; rather, they appear to select fighters who pose a challenge to his winning trajectory. They have been successful in the last two instances, but we remain persistent and determined.”

“Our coaching team consistently advises us to `keep winning, and your success will become undeniable.` That`s precisely what Leon achieved. He maintained a winning streak, secured the title, and successfully defended it. These are accomplishments that cannot be erased from his record.”

Fabian Edwards Reflects on Brother’s Recent Losses

The Edwards family has faced a challenging period, experiencing losses in both UFC and PFL competitions. Leon`s defeats against Muhammad and Brady were compounded by Fabian`s unsuccessful attempt to regain the Bellator title against Johnny Eblen.

These circumstances have ignited a renewed determination in Fabian, who openly discussed how he and his brother are navigating these recent setbacks.

Fabian Edwards explained, “In every fight, our mindset is geared towards victory, never defeat. The matchup against Brady was particularly challenging due to stylistic differences, and Brady has shown significant improvement since his previous loss.”

He concluded, “We anticipated a tough fight, as is inherent in this sport. A more severe outcome would have been a serious injury. While not performing to our expected capabilities is disappointing, it is part of the journey we have chosen.”
