Brandt Clarke: Untradeable for the Kings?

Eric Stephens suggests that defenseman Brandt Clarke has become a more untradeable asset for the Los Angeles Kings than forward Quinton Byfield, a sentiment that marks a significant shift from previous assessments.

Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson Prioritize Playoffs Over Contract Talks

According to Bruce LeVine, Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill has held initial discussions with the new agent for pending Restricted Free Agent forward Jason Robertson. Both parties agree that Robertson’s immediate focus should be on the team’s stretch run and upcoming playoffs. There is ample time for further negotiations, and no pressing deadline to finalize a new deal.

Carolina Hurricanes’ Goaltending Situation and Alexander Nikishin’s High Value

David Pagnotta, discussing the Carolina Hurricanes’ future goaltending, speculates that Freddy Andersen is unlikely to return to the club. He indicates that the Hurricanes will likely explore the goaltending market extensively during the offseason. Separately, Elliotte Friedman commented on trade rumors surrounding Alexander Nikishin, noting that the Hurricanes would only consider moving Nikishin for an “elite” return, highlighting his significant value to the team.

Jack Drury’s Future with the Colorado Avalanche

Aarif Deen of Colorado Hockey Now suggests that Jack Drury could become a trade candidate for the Avalanche this offseason, especially following the acquisition of Nic Roy. The team might be reluctant to meet Drury’s asking price and could seek to recover assets. Deen posits that the Avalanche might not have pursued Roy if they had anticipated being able to re-sign Nazem Kadri.

However, if Drury can be signed to a multi-year deal at a reasonable cost, he could remain as a fourth-line center, allowing Roy to shift to the wing on the third line or serve as a flexible center option. Drury, a Restricted Free Agent, was notably the only free agent not to receive an extension among several others (including Parker Kelly, Josh Manson, Sam Malinski, Scott Wedgewood, Martin Necas, and Gavin Brindley). Deen speculates that the Avalanche and Drury likely held contract discussions but were unable to reach an agreement on financial terms.
