Mexico`s national soccer team, commonly known as El Tri, has relocated its hotel in Los Angeles from downtown to Long Beach. This change, reported by ESPN, was made due to safety concerns stemming from ongoing protests in the downtown area, just before the start of the Concacaf Gold Cup tournament. Mexico`s first game in the Gold Cup is scheduled against the Dominican Republic on Saturday, June 14.
The decision to move hotels was prompted by anti-ICE protests that had reportedly entered their fifth night in the Los Angeles vicinity. Given the security situation, which included the alleged deployment of National Guard troops and U.S. Marine personnel in the city, Concacaf approved the team`s request for this late change in accommodations.
As the defending champions of the Concacaf Gold Cup, Mexico is aiming for a third consecutive regional tournament victory, having previously won the Concacaf Nations League in March. They are placed in Group A for the Gold Cup, where they will compete against Costa Rica, Suriname, and the Dominican Republic. This tournament represents a significant competitive event for Mexico as they prepare to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and the United States.
