Savannah, Georgia. Ryan McCormick hasn`t been enjoying his time on the Korn Ferry Tour this year, so on Friday, he decided to control his anger by taping his mouth shut.
The Korn Ferry Tour released a video showing McCormick playing with clear tape over his mouth and explaining this unusual action.
“I`ve been having not-so-fun times on the golf course this year. I`ve been pretty angry and mad,” McCormick said after his round. “I`ve tried a lot of things, and I just decided to shut myself up. So I put tape over my mouth.”
After starting with a 73, one over par, at the Club Car Championship, he scored a 72 and was certain to miss the cut.
One reason for this extraordinary measure, according to McCormick, was that he didn`t want to create a negative experience for his playing partners.
“I was hoping maybe it would help me. I can`t say if it did or didn`t. It certainly makes you breathe. I felt like Bane, like Batman, muzzling myself. I`m not proud of it. I don`t want to create a negative experience for my playing partners. And, you know, it`s not fair to me or other people either. I`m having a tough time, and this was my solution today.”
McCormick, who returned to the developmental Korn Ferry Tour after a year on the PGA Tour in 2024, has played the weekend only three times in six starts and hasn`t finished in the top 40 yet.
He said he has read books and talked to people. Nothing seems to be working.
“I`ve run out of ideas, and I thought about the tape thing a couple of weeks ago,” McCormick said. “So unfortunately, it came down to this today.”
