Juventus May Sack Coach Thiago Motta

Sports news » Juventus May Sack Coach Thiago Motta

Thiago Motta`s time as Juventus manager could be coming to an early end. The club is reportedly discussing internally the possibility of dismissing him before the current season finishes. Sky Italy suggests that Juventus is likely to replace the former Bologna coach in the coming weeks.

If Motta is sacked, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has reportedly identified Igor Tudor as a possible interim manager until the end of the season. Tudor, previously a Juventus player and assistant coach in 2020-21, also managed Hellas Verona, Olympique Marseille, and Lazio. Despite initially being intended to lead a new phase at Lazio, Tudor left after just three months. Lazio subsequently appointed Marco Baroni as head coach in summer 2024.

Motta`s tenure at Juventus has been largely unsuccessful after his appointment to usher in a new era following Massimiliano Allegri`s departure. Despite high expectations, Motta has struggled to deliver. While Juventus remains in contention for a Champions League spot, they were eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Empoli and from the UEFA Champions League playoffs by PSV.

Beyond results, Motta has failed to replicate the attractive football style that characterized his Bologna team last season, which achieved a historic Champions League qualification. Furthermore, reports indicate that key players like Dusan Vlahovic and Kenan Yildiz are dissatisfied with the current coach.

Juventus will face Genoa in Turin next week after the international break, but it appears unlikely that Motta will remain in charge for that match. In their last two Serie A games against Fiorentina and Atalanta, Juventus conceded seven goals and scored none. The 4-0 home defeat against Atalanta was their heaviest home loss in Serie A since October 1967. These results have widened the gap between the fans and the manager, with supporters urging the club to make a swift decision regarding Motta`s future.
