John Wayne Parr Recounts Enjoyable Sparring Sessions with GSP

Back in 2013, John Wayne Parr visited the Tristar gym in Canada specifically to help Georges St-Pierre refine his striking techniques.

During this period, these two highly regarded figures in combat sports worked closely together, participating in high-quality and exhilarating sparring sessions.

Recalling the experience in an exclusive interview, Parr stated they were “so much fun,” describing Georges as “such a great training partner.” He noted that GSP was highly “appreciative” of everything he was shown regarding Muay Thai and “took everything on board.” Parr mentioned a moment after about a week of training together where coach John Danaher commented on his surprise at GSP`s significant improvements, highlighting his hard pad work, footwork, and use of southpaw counters in preparation for his fight against Johny Hendricks. Parr reiterated how “so much fun” it was and how “cool” Georges was to be around. He emphasized GSP`s genuine martial artist`s attitude and his humility, observing that despite being a superstar, in the gym, he was “just one of the boys,” “so humble and respectful,” and surprisingly “nice.”

Parr Names Legend He Would Still Like to Spar

Having proven his skills unquestionably inside the ring, Parr has retired from competitive fighting with nothing left to demonstrate.

But while he has concluded his competition career, his deep love for Muay Thai continues.

The 48-year-old is now dedicated to training the next generation of fighters at his Boonchu Gym in Queensland, Australia.

Although his time competing under the bright lights has ended, Parr mentioned there is still one legendary fighter he would particularly enjoy sparring with.
