UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev recently shared a video showcasing a promising fighter who has journeyed from his home country to Dagestan to master the art of Sambo.
Dagestan, a region in Russia, is famed for producing elite MMA fighters, including Makhachev himself and the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Despite criticisms from rivals like Ilia Topuria, Dagestan`s fighting pedigree is undeniable. Now, a fighter from Spain has decided to immerse himself in this environment, seeking to learn from some of the best grappling minds in the world.

Spanish Fighter Seeks Training with Islam Makhachev in Dagestan
In a conversation with Daniel Cormier, Makhachev suggested that Cormier should send his son to Dagestan for two to three years to significantly improve his wrestling skills. Makhachev joked that Cormier could “forget” about his son during this intense training period, only needing to check in after six months.
It appears someone took this advice to heart. Makhachev posted a video on Instagram featuring an interview with a Spanish fighter who has indeed come to Dagestan for training.
In the video, Makhachev greets the fighter in Spanish, asking “Como estas, amigo?” which means “How are you, friend?”.
The fighter responded that he was “Good, but so tired.”
Makhachev then playfully asked, “Barcelona number one?”
The fighter quickly retorted, “No, Madrid, number one.”
Makhachev then humorously declared, referring to his earlier comments about Cormier`s son, “First guy who come to Dagestan, for two-three years, send him to Dagestan.”
Islam Makhachev Encourages UFC Legend to Experience Dagestan
Makhachev has not only invited Cormier but also other prominent figures in the UFC to visit Dagestan.
The lightweight champion is clearly proud of his homeland and eager to share its unique culture and training environment with leading figures in the sport.
Recently, Makhachev extended an invitation to another UFC legend to come and explore Dagestan firsthand.
