Formula 1 has officially announced its calendar for the 2026 season, confirming a schedule of 24 races. As in previous years, Australia is set to host the opening round.
Madrid, whose addition had been previously confirmed, will be the only new venue on the schedule, becoming the host of the Spanish Grand Prix from 2026. This means Barcelona will no longer feature on the calendar as its current contract concludes.
As anticipated, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola has been removed from the schedule. Imola had hosted five races since rejoining the F1 calendar in 2020.
Due to the timing of Ramadan, similar to 2025, Bahrain will not host the first race in March. Consequently, Melbourne`s Albert Park circuit will open the season, marking the second time it does so under its current contract, which runs until 2037.

The Australian Grand Prix is scheduled for March 8th, one week earlier than the previous season. The Chinese Grand Prix will follow seven days later. Japan will then be a standalone race weekend before Bahrain and Saudi Arabia form a double-header in mid-April.
In an effort to create a more sustainable calendar, the Canadian Grand Prix has been moved forward several weeks from its traditional slot and will now take place in May for the first time, following the Miami Grand Prix.
The Monaco Grand Prix has been pushed back to accommodate this change, and it will now kick off an uninterrupted European summer leg of the season in early June.
The British Grand Prix remains in its usual position, with the race at Silverstone set for July 5th.
The newly added Madrid race will conclude the European part of the calendar in September.
The 2026 calendar features only two triple-headers, both occurring towards the end of the season.
The races in Austin, Mexico City, and Sao Paulo will return to being held on three consecutive weekends. Similarly, Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi will form a triple-header to conclude the season over the final three weeks.
Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 President and CEO, commented: “We are excited to welcome Madrid to the calendar, and to see huge automotive brands like Audi, Cadillac and Ford join the Formula 1 grid. It promises to be an unforgettable season, where once again we will come together at 24 amazing global venues to watch the best drivers in the world push themselves to the limit and produce incredible wheel to wheel racing for our millions of fans watching around the globe.”
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem added: “My thanks to everyone involved in putting on this incredible season and in delivering a calendar that continues to drive the sport forward on all fronts. And, my thanks to the fans whose passion and unwavering support keep the spirit of our sport alive.”
