Initially, the Penguins had planned to discuss a new deal with Malkin during the Olympic break. However, contract negotiations were subsequently pushed to the summer, leading to some public concern from Malkin. Following this, General Manager Ron Hextall reportedly reassured Malkin, reiterating that discussions would indeed take place in the off-season.
