Newcastle United`s manager, Eddie Howe, has been admitted to hospital and will be absent from Sunday`s Premier League fixture against Manchester United. Howe had been feeling unwell for a number of days and was hospitalized on Friday night for further medical evaluations.
The club released a statement stating that Eddie Howe was kept in hospital overnight for additional testing. He is currently conscious, communicating with his family, and under expert medical supervision.
Newcastle United conveyed their well wishes to Eddie Howe for a swift recovery, and promised to provide further updates as they become available.
In Howe`s absence, assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will take the lead for the Magpies at St. James` Park. This is a critical match for Newcastle as they aim to secure a Champions League qualifying spot. Newcastle currently sits seventh in the Premier League standings, but will have two games in hand over all teams above them when Sunday`s match commences.
Newcastle will play their other game in hand on Wednesday when they host Crystal Palace.
Speaking on Friday, Jason Tindall, standing in for Howe at the press conference, mentioned that Howe had been quite ill for the past few days, but they had maintained daily contact. He added that preparations have not been affected, and he was hopeful Howe would recover quickly.
