Eddie Hall Recalls Near-Fatal World Record Deadlift Before KSW Fight

Sports news » Eddie Hall Recalls Near-Fatal World Record Deadlift Before KSW Fight

Eddie Hall is widely recognized for winning the World`s Strongest Man title in 2017, a significant achievement that predates his entry into the world of combat sports by several years.

This upcoming weekend at KSW 105 in Poland, one of the heaviest mixed martial arts fights in history is scheduled, featuring Eddie Hall taking on Mariusz Pudzianowski.

Hall challenged his fellow former World`s Strongest Man winner last year. This occurred after Hall`s first public display of cage fighting skills in an unusual 2-on-1 bout where he knocked out two opponents.

In preparation for his fight against Pudzianowski, Eddie Hall has recently trained with UFC interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall.

Eddie Hall sets the 500kg deadlift world record

Eddie Hall `almost died` after setting world record

Mariusz Pudzianowski, a five-time winner of the World`s Strongest Man competition, transitioned to MMA in 2009 and has since become a notable figure in the sport`s heavyweight division.

Hall has been aiming to break into combat sports for some time. Following exhibition boxing matches and unconventional 2-on-1 fights, he is set to make his professional debut this Saturday.

However, the British strongman revealed that nine years ago, he nearly died after achieving the world record for the heaviest deadlift, lifting an incredible 500kg.

Recounting the intense experience in an interview with Rob Moore, Hall explained, “When I lifted it, and as soon as it got past my knees and I was at the halfway point, I guess it was just that, not a feeling of like, [explicit removed] you to everyone but a feeling of like, ‘There you go.’”

He continued, “I blacked out, I did the lift, got the down call, and stood there and enjoyed it for a bit, and then when I released, it was like that massive dump of blood just gets flushed all over the place. I managed to unhook a hand and just went [unconscious].

“I was convulsing… I was in and out of consciousness, convulsing all around, and it took me a minute to compose myself, there was blood everywhere… My blood pressure was unreadable… My body just couldn’t deal with it… It was a very worrying time,” he added, detailing the aftermath.

Hall and Pudzianowski set to weigh in at over 600lbs combined

Their upcoming fight this Saturday is scheduled as a super heavyweight bout, and the two former World’s Strongest Men are expected to have a combined weight exceeding 600lbs.

Ahead of their fight in Poland, the two enormous athletes had an awkward encounter, visibly demonstrating their immense size.

Naturally, Pudzianowski holds considerably more combat sports experience than ‘The Beast,’ having secured significant career wins against opponents like Butterbean and Bob Sapp.
