Sports news » Dustin Poirier watches on as MMA star drops The Rock's signature WWE move moments before scoring KO win

At an APFC event, the MMA promotion founded by UFC legend Anthony Pettis, a fighter performed an incredibly unusual move in the cage, observed by Dustin Poirier.

Anthony Pettis himself was known for spectacular moves in the UFC, with his `Showtime kick` being a legendary moment in MMA.

Since leaving the UFC and stepping away from competition, Pettis created his own MMA promotion, Anthony Pettis FC.

APFC claims to be the fastest-growing MMA promotion in the United States, broadcasting all events live on UFC Fight Pass.

MMA fighter drops The Rock’s signature move during APFC event

APFC 16 took place in Milwaukee on Sunday, featuring several title fights and UFC legend Dustin Poirier in attendance.

However, it was an undercard fight that went viral, as Miguel Sanson performed The Rock’s signature WWE move, The People’s Elbow.

While MMA has seen many strange moves, this may be the first time a fighter has used a famous WWE finisher.

Shortly after `The People’s Elbow`, Swanson proceeded to dominate his opponent, Chris Johnson, picking him up and slamming him on his head in another WWE-style move, resulting in a KO win.

The aftermath was concerning as Johnson required oxygen and was stretchered out of the cage after being unresponsive.

Following the fight, Johnson accused Sanson on social media of multiple fouls, including groin strikes, illegal head spikes, headbutts, and elbows to the back of the head, while acknowledging Sanson`s wrestling skills.

Dustin Poirier was hit with a similar move after brutal UFC KO loss

After Poirier`s brutal knockout loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291, referee Herb Dean jokingly hit him with The Rock’s signature move.

Poirier`s presence at APFC 16 comes during a lull in his career. After losing to Islam Makhachev at UFC 302, Poirier announced his intention to retire after his next fight.

Despite no official fight scheduled, rumors suggest Poirier may complete a trilogy fight against current BMF champion Max Holloway.
